The same lot of dehydrated onion leaves Pipavav for Hamburg, Rotterdam, Felixstowe, New York, Jebel Ali, Singapore or Melbourne - what changes is the document set, the duty line and the number of weeks on the water. Pick your market below and you get exactly that: what buyers there import from us, the import rules, the ports and the transit time, and the questions importers in that country ask before the first order.
Fifteen dehydrated onion export markets have their own page. Anywhere else a container sails to from Pipavav can be quoted: tell us the destination and the quotation comes back with the document set and the lead time for it.
Europe
Europe is where most Indian dehydrated onion goes, and one of the regions KlarHarvest sells to. The European Union is one customs territory and one food-law area - CN 0712 20 00, Regulation 396/2005 residue limits, IFS and BRCGS supplier approval - so one document set clears in every member state, and the country pages add what each market does differently: Germany's direct-buying manufacturers and German-language contact, the Dutch and Belgian trading houses in Rotterdam and Antwerp, the United Kingdom's own tariff and IPAFFS regime since Brexit, and Norway's EEA food law with a national customs layer. It is the largest of our dehydrated onion export markets by a distance.

The United States and Canada buy dehydrated onion for seasoning, snack and soup manufacturing under document regimes of their own: FDA facility registration, prior notice and the importer's FSVP file in the US, the Safe Food for Canadians licence and CFIA requirements in Canada, HTS 0712.20 by form in both. The east coast is four to five weeks from Pipavav, the west coast and Montreal five to six, and both markets run on the GMA pallet and the pound-marked bag. Mexico, the third, buys dried onion for the seasoning, snack and instant-soup plants around Mexico City, Queretaro and Monterrey, with the SENASICA requirements module and a COFEPRIS-registered importer on its side, five to seven weeks out via Manzanillo, Veracruz or Altamira. Together they are the second-largest of our dehydrated onion export markets.

The Gulf is the closest export market to Pipavav - two weeks on the water - and the one where dehydrated and fresh onion travel side by side, under halal certification, Arabic labelling and the GSO and SFDA requirements. Southeast Asia is the world's instant-noodle kitchen, two to three weeks out, with an importer licence per country and JAKIM-recognised halal for Malaysia. Japan, four to five weeks out, imports about 7,000 tonnes of dried onion a year for instant noodles, curry roux and dressings, under an MHLW import notification per shipment and positive-list residue limits, with the India-Japan CEPA rate on the customs line. The Gulf and Southeast Asia are the fastest-moving of our dehydrated onion export markets.

Australia and New Zealand share the FSANZ Food Standards Code and the strictest biosecurity borders in the world: DAFF import conditions on BICON in Australia, MPI import health standards and Food Act importer registration in New Zealand. Three to five weeks from Pipavav, a clean container inspected at the wharf, and markets that buy by the pallet as much as by the container. The Pacific Islands - Fiji and Papua New Guinea first, with Fiji as the hub for the smaller islands - buy by the pallet, transhipped via Singapore, under Biosecurity Authority of Fiji and NAQIA conditions. They are the smallest of our dehydrated onion export markets and the strictest at the border.

Choosing
The five cuts of dehydrated onion are the same everywhere; what differs is which one a market reaches for first. The pattern below is what our inquiries show, and every market page has the detail. Across the dehydrated onion export markets we serve, the first question is usually the cut, and the second is the tier.
| Market | First cut asked for | Second | Red onion | Fresh onion |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Germany and the EU | White flakes and chopped for soups and sauces | Powder and granules for seasoning houses | Ethnic and premium ranges | Rarely |
| Netherlands and Belgium | Flakes, granules and powder in trader containers | Chopped and minced for sauce and frozen food | Ethnic trade around the ports | Rarely |
| United Kingdom | Red onion in every cut for the curry trade | White powder and granules for snacks | The main red market in Europe | Rarely |
| Norway | Minced for fish and meat products | Chopped and powder for soups | Premium ranges | No |
| United States and Canada | Onion powder and granules for seasonings | Chopped and minced for soups and dips | Hot-sauce and ethnic ranges | Rarely |
| Gulf states | Powder and granules for seasoning plants | Red flakes and powder for the wholesale trade | Large | Yes - the largest fresh market |
| Southeast Asia | Powder and granules for instant noodles | Chopped and minced for sauces and sambals | Sambal and curry ranges | Yes - Malaysia and Singapore |
| Australia and New Zealand | Powder and granules for seasonings and snacks | Chopped and minced for soups and meat products | Small | No |
Shipping
Bag, pallet, container, protection, route and documents are the same for every dehydrated onion export market; only the pallet standard, the label language and the document set change. One packing standard serves all fifteen dehydrated onion export markets.
Terms
We quote FOB Pipavav by default with the sea freight to your port shown separately, so you always see what is product and what is transport; CFR and CIF to your port are quoted on request. DDP is not offered, because the import formalities belong with the importer of record in every market above, and an Indian exporter that claims to know your customs broker's job better than your broker is not being honest. The terms are the same for all dehydrated onion export markets; only the currency and the port change.
Payment terms are agreed per order - typically an advance with the balance against shipping documents, and letters of credit for regular volumes. The quotation is valid for the period stated on it, which is short: 8-9 kg of fresh onion make one kilo of dried, so a small move in the raw-onion price is a large move in the dried price, and we would rather re-confirm a real price than pad every quote with a safety margin. On confirmation the raw-material price is locked with the plant the same day. Quotations are in US dollars or euros; sterling, Australian and New Zealand dollars on request with the exchange basis stated.
Timing
Indian white and red onion is harvested from March to May in the Mahuva belt and dried within the season, so the freshest dehydrated lots and the brightest colour grades are available from April to June; the plants sell from stored stock, within the same specification, for the rest of the year, to all dehydrated onion export markets alike. Fresh onion follows three harvests - the storable rabi crop shipping from March to about November, kharif from October to January, late kharif from January to March - which is why Indian fresh onion can be exported for most of the calendar. The calendar sets the rhythm of every one of the dehydrated onion export markets above.
For an importer that means two things. A buyer who covers the autumn and winter season in the spring buys the freshest lots at the year's firmest supply; a buyer who orders in the northern winter buys from stored stock, still within specification but from a market that is thinner. And the raw-onion price, which follows the harvest, is the reason every quotation carries a short validity and the raw-material price is locked on confirmation. Lead time from order to loading is 10-15 days for a new lot in any month; the sailing adds two weeks to the Gulf and up to six to North America. It is the one date every one of our dehydrated onion export markets shares.
FAQ
What importers ask about shipping from India before the first order.
Fifteen dehydrated onion export markets have their own page: Europe as a whole, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Norway, the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Gulf states, Southeast Asia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Any port a container sails to from Pipavav can be quoted.
For the fifteen dehydrated onion export markets above, yes - each page states the customs line, the documents, the ports and the transit. For any other destination we confirm the requirements with the quotation, not after the goods have sailed.
Your customs broker, with our documents. We quote FOB by default and CFR or CIF on request; DDP is not offered, because the import formalities belong with the importer of record.
About two weeks to the Gulf, two to three to Southeast Asia, three to four to Australia, four to five to North Europe, the UK and New Zealand, four to six to North America - plus 10-15 days from order to loading for a new lot.
Yes, for dehydrated onion: a container can be consolidated with several products and cuts, and after clearance at one EU port the goods move to any member state. A living cargo of fresh onion ships as one container to one port.
Tell us the destination. We confirm its document set and lead time in the quotation, and if a certificate or a registration we do not yet hold is required, we say so before you order.
No. Fresh onion is a living cargo that ships FCL in ventilated containers to the Gulf and Southeast Asia, where the sailing is short enough; the European, North American and Oceanian pages are dehydrated onion only.
All of the dehydrated onion export markets above, for dehydrated onion: LCL sails weekly to the main ports in every region, and a mixed pallet of several cuts is the usual first order.
Yes, on request, from a certifier recognised in the destination - the Gulf and Malaysian schemes list the accepted bodies - and the certifier is named in the quotation.
US dollars or euros by default; sterling, Australian and New Zealand dollars on request, with the exchange basis stated on the quotation.
Not yet in any of the dehydrated onion export markets above - the company was founded in 2025 and its first shipments are being arranged across these markets. Where we exhibit will be on this page when it happens; until then, samples by courier and a video call at packing are the meeting.
Yes for dehydrated onion - the lot's certificate of analysis is issued against the strictest limits we serve, so a lot cleared for Germany also meets the file for the Gulf or Australia; only the market's added documents differ. Fresh onion is quoted per destination.
Yes - 200-500 g per cut by courier with the sample lot's laboratory report, to any of the fifteen markets; Australia and New Zealand samples enter under the biosecurity conditions for samples, which we state with the dispatch.
From the published import rules of each market, the trade statistics of India's customs data and the questions our inquiries actually ask. Duty rates, preferences and transit times are stated as they stand today and confirmed in every quotation for the day of shipment.
By where a container from Pipavav arrives in a documented condition and where the buyers want the file we prepare: the fifteen dehydrated onion export markets above are the ones our inquiries come from and the ones whose import rules we have written down. Others are added when a customer asks and the rules are checked.
The product price is; the landed cost is not. Freight, duty, VAT or GST and the market's own paperwork differ, which is why every quotation states the product price and the freight separately and names the customs line for the destination.
Yes. The lot is filled and sealed inside the same certified plant and tested against the strictest limits among our dehydrated onion export markets, so a lot released for Germany also meets the file for the Gulf or Australia; only the added documents and the label differ by destination.
Landed cost
The product price is the same for every dehydrated onion export market; the landed cost is not, and the differences are worth knowing before the first quotation is compared with a domestic offer. Freight is the first: about two weeks and the lowest rate per tonne to the Gulf, two to three to Southeast Asia, three to four to Australia, four to five to North Europe, the UK and New Zealand, four to six to North America - and a container of flakes carries ten tonnes where a container of powder carries thirteen, so the cut decides the freight per kilo as much as the route does. The differences between dehydrated onion export markets are in the duty, the freight and the paperwork, not in the product.
Duty is the second: 6.4 % third-country rate at the EU border, 6 % in the UK, the GCC's 5 % at the first Gulf port, nil in Singapore, a form-dependent line in the United States with the possibility of additional tariffs on Indian goods, preferential or nil rates under the ASEAN-India and Australia-India agreements where the certificate of origin is issued under them. Import VAT or GST is the third and is usually reclaimable by a registered importer, so it is a cash-flow question rather than a cost. The fourth is the market-specific paperwork - halal certification, attestation, inspection fees, a manufacturer's declaration - which is small in money and large in consequence if it is missing. Compared across dehydrated onion export markets, the product is the constant and the border is the variable.
Every quotation states the product price and the freight separately, names the customs line and the preference we expect, and lists the market's added documents, so a landed-cost calculation for any of the fifteen dehydrated onion export markets can be built from one page without a phone call. The same holds for dehydrated onion export markets without a page of their own: the quotation carries the same lines.
