GRANULES · 0.5-1 MM

Dehydrated White Onion Granules 0.5-1 mm

Dehydrated white onion granules are the dosing-stable middle between a cut and a powder: free-flowing, precise to weigh, with more flavour surface than the coarse cuts. They rehydrate in 3-5 minutes - and are usually not rehydrated at all, but dosed dry into blends, rubs and bouillons.

KlarHarvest supplies them from BRC-certified dehydration plants in Mahuva, Gujarat, with a laboratory report for every lot and shipments from a single pallet.

The range

White Onion Granules vs Other Dehydrated Onion Cuts, To Scale

Same onion, same line, same lot documentation - a different particle size.

Drawn to relative scale. The larger the cut, the more visible the onion in the finished product; the finer the cut, the faster it rehydrates.

The product

What Are Dehydrated White Onion Granules?

What the product is, why the cut size matters, and what it means for the price per kilo.

Dehydrated white onion granules are white onion sliced, dried on a belt dryer to about 6 % moisture, then milled and classified on a sieve stack so the grains fall between 0.5 and 1 mm. The trade also says "onion granulated", "granular onion" or gives the mesh band, 16-40 mesh. Nothing is added: the standard product is 100 % onion, and an anti-caking agent goes in only on request, declared.

The cut exists for one reason: it flows. Granules run through automated dosing lines, blend evenly into dry seasonings without segregating, and carry no dust. That is why dehydrated white onion granules are the standard onion form in rubs, stock cubes and snack seasonings - and why they are one of the densest cuts to ship, at 12-13 tonnes in a 20 ft container.

Overview

Dehydrated White Onion Granules: Product Overview

KlarHarvest dehydrated white onion granules come from white onions grown in the Mahuva belt of Gujarat, harvested from March to May and dried within the season at BRCGS-certified plants. The dried slices are milled, sieved to the 0.5-1 mm band, passed over an optical sorter and a magnet, and packed with nothing added: no sulphites, no preservatives, no anti-caking agent unless you specify one. Each lot is tested by an accredited laboratory before it is loaded, and the report travels with the goods.

KlarHarvest is a merchant exporter with its own godown, not a dehydration plant. We pick the unit, specify the lot, have the granules filled and sealed inside the certified plant and ship them under our own label from Pipavav. That is what lets a blender order one pallet of dehydrated white onion granules, share it with powder or minced onion, and hold a complete quotation - specification sheet, price, freight, lead time - one business day after asking.

Manufacturing process

How Dehydrated White Onion Granules Are Made

Eight steps from a cured bulb to a sealed, lot-coded bag. Where a defect can enter the product, the step says so.

An opened stainless sieve stack showing three screen decks holding coarse pieces, white onion granules and fine powder.
  1. Onions received and cured

White onions from the Mahuva belt, harvested March to May, are graded at the plant gate and held in ventilated stores. About 8-9 kg of fresh onion go into 1 kg of dehydrated white onion granules.

  2. Tops, roots, skins off

Topping, tailing and peeling. Any skin that survives this station reappears as a dark speck in the granules, so the peel is inspected on the belt.

  3. Wash and inspection

A chlorinated wash and a visual pick of damaged or pink-skinned bulbs ahead of the slicer.

  4. Slicing

Slices cut to the thickness the dryer and the mill need; no sulphite dip anywhere in the line.

  5. Drying on the belt

Single-layer drying on a multi-stage belt, temperature stepping down over several hours to 5-6 % moisture.

  6. Milling and classifying

Cooled slices are milled and run over a sieve stack that keeps the 0.5-1 mm fraction; oversize is re-milled and the dust goes to powder. An optical sorter removes dark specks, and a magnet and sifter run ahead of packing.

  7. Steam treatment where specified

Low and Extra Low Bacterial lots pass a validated steam step and are re-dried; Standard tier does not.

  8. Metal detection, packing, hold

Every bag passes a metal detector, is sealed with lot code and QR, and stays in the warehouse until the laboratory report is out and you have released it.

Grading

Dehydrated White Onion Granules Grading

Colour as a measured value and defects as a count per 100 g - the two things a grade actually means.

Granules are dosed by weight into blends where a cream-coloured lot would tint the mix, so dehydrated white onion granules are graded by measured lightness like the coarser cuts. The trade bands are below; your lot's L* reading and speck count are on the certificate of analysis.

  1. Bright white

    extra white · A grade

    L*88-92

Ivory white, slightly translucent, no visible tint

A tighter colour band or speck limit for dehydrated white onion granules is agreed at order stage and confirmed on the certificate of analysis.

Applications

Dehydrated White Onion Granules Applications and Industries Served

The uses this cut is specified for most often. Tell us yours and we will say whether it is the right one.

Seasoning blends and rubs

Dehydrated white onion granules are the onion component of most dry rubs and blends: free-flowing, dust-free and easy to weigh.

Bouillons and stock cubes

Granules disperse in a bouillon paste or a pressed cube and dissolve on rehydration, with more onion flavour per gram than flakes.

Snack seasoning

Applied dry to chips and extruded snacks with the salt and cheese powders; the granule clings to the oil coat without caking the drum.

Industrial dosing systems

A defined 0.5-1 mm granule flows through hoppers and volumetric feeders reliably where powder bridges and flakes jam.

Sauce and gravy mixes

Instant gravy, sauce and dip mixes use granules for fast rehydration in hot water and a smooth result without visible pieces.

Coating mixes and batters

Batter, breading and coater mixes take granules so the onion flavour sits evenly in the coat and the dry mix stays free-flowing.

How to Use Dehydrated White Onion Granules: Rehydration & Dosing

Three numbers decide how this cut behaves in a recipe - how fast it takes water back, how much, and how little of it you need.

  • Rehydration Three to five minutes in warm water - and usually none at all: dehydrated white onion granules are dosed dry into blends, rubs and bouillons.
  • Dry dosing Free-flowing and stable on the scale, so they run through automatic dosing lines and mix evenly into dry blends without segregating.
  • Dosing Roughly one-ninth of the fresh onion weight, then adjust to taste.

Food safety

Dehydrated White Onion Granules Microbiology: Standard, Low & Extra Low Bacterial

A bouillon cube is boiled, so Standard granules are enough; a seasoning dosed onto a ready-to-eat snack after frying has no kill step, and that blend needs Extra Low dehydrated white onion granules.

Standard

For blends that end in a cooked product - bouillons, kettle sauces, baked goods. The default tier.

Low bacterial

Reduced counts without the full steam treatment, for stricter blend specifications.

Extra Low Bacterial

Steam-treated and re-dried for topical snack seasonings and other ready-to-eat uses; counts per lot on the COA.

Packaging & export

Packaging and Export Logistics for Dehydrated White Onion Granules

Dehydrated white onion granules are among the densest cuts in the range, so a 20 ft container is weight-limited long before it is full; think in pallets and tonnes, not in bags. This is how a lot goes out.

FAQ

Dehydrated White Onion Granules - Frequently Asked Questions

What buyers ask about this cut before the first order. Anything not covered here, send us the question - you have an answer within one business day.

Why choose onion granules over powder?

Granules flow and dose precisely without the dust and clumping risk of powder, and still dissolve fast - 3-5 minutes.

Do dehydrated white onion granules contain an anti-caking agent?

Only on request, and always declared. The standard product is 100 % onion.

How much fits in a 20-ft container?

About 12-13 tonnes - granules are among the densest cuts, so freight per kilogram is the lowest in the range.

Are granules suitable for automated dosing lines?

Yes - free-flowing and dosing-stable is exactly what the cut is made for; the mesh band is held lot after lot.

What mesh band are dehydrated white onion granules?

Roughly 16-40 mesh, which is the 0.5-1 mm band on a sieve stack. Tighter bands are quoted against your specification.

Which colour grade do you supply by default?

Standard white (L* 84-88) unless your specification asks for bright white. The reading for your lot is on the certificate of analysis.

How should granules be stored after opening?

Sealed, cool and dry, first-in-first-out. Granules are less hygroscopic than powder but take up moisture in a humid store.
