Fresh White Onion for Export, 25-80 mm

Fresh white onion from the Bhavnagar-Mahuva belt is the same crop that feeds India's dehydration plants: high dry matter, clean white skin, white flesh, mild to medium pungency. The high dry matter is also why it loses less weight in transit and holds longer in storage than the average red onion.

KlarHarvest ships it cured, size-graded to your band and packed in mesh or jute bags, in ventilated or reefer containers from Pipavav - FCL, with a loading video and the phytosanitary certificate for every shipment.

The product

What Is Fresh White Onion?

What the product is, why the grade band matters, and what it means for the price per kilo.

Fresh white onion is Allium cepa with a white to pale-straw papery skin and white flesh, grown as the rabi crop in Gujarat's Bhavnagar-Mahuva belt and harvested from February to April. It is the onion the world's dehydration industry is built on, and the same high dry matter that makes it dry well makes it a good traveller: firm bulbs, tight necks, less weight loss in a container.

Buyers choose fresh white onion where a pale onion is wanted raw or cooked - foodservice, cut-and-pack lines, retail nets, whole-onion pickling in the small grades - and where a mild, clean flavour matters more than colour. It is sold by bulb diameter in bands from 25-40 mm to 70 mm and above, one band per lot, and it ships FCL only: about 12-14 t in a 20 ft ventilated container.

Overview

Fresh White Onion: Product Overview

KlarHarvest fresh white onion comes from growers in the Bhavnagar-Mahuva belt of Gujarat, field-cured after the rabi harvest and held in ventilated sheds from which it ships into the second half of the year. Bulbs are topped, cleaned, screened to your grade band and packed in 5-25 kg mesh bags, plain or with your label, and every bag is counted and weighed before the container is sealed.

Fresh and dehydrated from one desk: KlarHarvest is the exporter that dries this belt's white onion at BRC-certified plants, and it sells the same bulbs fresh. One audit covers both, one contact answers for both, one loading point in Bhavnagar serves both. A quotation for fresh white onion - FOB, CFR or CIF - names the grade band, the packing, the season window and the freight, and reaches you within one business day.

Growing and packing

How Fresh White Onion Is Grown, Cured and Packed

Eight steps from the field to a strapped pallet in a ventilated container. Where a defect can enter the product, the step says so.

Stacks of slatted wooden crates full of cured white onions in a ventilated storage shed, daylight striping through the slatted walls.
  1. Growing

White onion is the rabi crop of the Bhavnagar-Mahuva belt: sown in November and December, grown through the dry winter and lifted from February to April when the tops fall over - the sign the bulb has finished and the skin can set.

  2. Field curing

Lifted bulbs lie in windrows for several days with the tops covering them until the necks tighten and the outer skin dries hard. The high dry matter of white onion cures fast and firm.

  3. Shed storage

Cured bulbs move to ventilated sheds stacked for airflow, where the rabi crop keeps for months and ships into the second half of the year.

  4. Topping and cleaning

Tops and roots are trimmed and loose skin and soil brushed off - the station that decides whether root tufts and dirty necks turn up in the bag.

  5. Screening

Bulbs run over a screening deck and drop into their diameter band; sprouted, split, double and damaged bulbs are picked off the belt by hand.

  6. Bagging

Each mesh bag is filled to its net weight, sewn or clipped shut and labelled with grade, lot and your mark where you want it.

  7. Loading

Bags are palletised and strapped or stowed loose to your instruction, counted and weighed, and filmed as they go into a ventilated container at our premises.

  8. Release

The phytosanitary inspection and the export documents are completed, the container is sealed under customs supervision, and the seal number is in your order record before the truck leaves.

Grade bands

Fresh White Onion Grade Bands and Tolerances

Bulb diameter as a screened band and the tolerances that go with it - what a fresh onion grade actually promises.

Fresh white onion is traded by bulb diameter. The band on the contract is a screening result from a natural crop, not a promise of identical bulbs, so the export trade accepts about 5 % of bulbs outside it; a narrower band costs more because more of the crop is left behind to reach it.

Applications

Fresh White Onion Applications and Industries Served

The uses this variety is specified for most often. Tell us yours and we will say whether it is the right one.

Foodservice and wholesale markets preferring a pale onion

Fresh white onion for wholesale markets and caterers in the Gulf and Southeast Asia where a pale onion is the everyday choice.

Cut-and-pack operations wanting white flesh

White flesh for diced, sliced and salad packs where a red tint is not wanted; a uniform band keeps trimming waste low.

Retail nets and loose display

Cured, sound bulbs graded by diameter for retail nets and loose display, with the clean white skin the shelf expects.

Pickling and whole-onion packing (25-40 mm)

The small band goes whole into pickle jars and cans, graded so every jar fills evenly.

Paste, puree and sauce lines

Processors that need fresh, not dried, onion for a paste or puree buy the white bulb by the container.

Hotel and catering kitchens

Kitchens that peel and cut daily take the mid band; a uniform diameter gives even dice and rings with less waste.

Packaging & export

Packaging and Export Logistics for Fresh White Onion

Fresh white onion travels well for a living cargo - the high dry matter means less weight loss in transit - but airflow and sailing time still decide what arrives. This is how a container of it is packed.

  • Pallet 40 x 25 kg bags to a pallet, 1,000 kg net, strapped and corner-boarded - or loose stowage in the container, which the Gulf trade often prefers.
  • Container About 12-14 t net in a 20 ft ventilated container, 26-28 t in a 40 ft; filled by weight and by the airflow the bags need, never to the roof.
  • Ventilation and temperature Ventilated dry containers on sailings up to about three weeks; reefer at 0-2 °C with fresh-air exchange on longer or warm-season sailings.
  • Inspection Bags counted and weighed at loading, the lot photographed, and a sample cut for the phytosanitary inspector before the seal goes on.

FAQ

Fresh White Onion - Frequently Asked Questions

What buyers ask about this variety before the first order. Anything not covered here, send us the question - you have an answer within one business day.

What is the difference between fresh white onion and dehydrated white onion?

The same crop from the same belt. Fresh ships as cured bulbs in mesh bags, FCL, with a season window; dehydrated ships as a dried, lab-tested ingredient from one pallet, all year.

Which grade band should I order?

40-60 mm is the volume export grade for foodservice and retail nets; 25-40 mm for pickling; 60 mm and above for slicing lines and loose display. Tell us the end use and we say which band the current crop screens best.

When is fresh white onion available?

Harvest is February to April; cured stock ships into the second half of the year. The window and the crop condition are confirmed in every quotation.

Do you ship fresh white onion LCL?

No. A living cargo needs its own ventilation setting, so fresh onion ships FCL only - about 12-14 t in a 20 ft ventilated container.

Ventilated or reefer container?

Ventilated dry containers on sailings up to about three weeks; reefer at 0-2 °C with fresh-air exchange on longer or warm-season sailings. We recommend one for your route.

Can I get my own label on the bags?

Yes. Printed mesh bags or tags with your mark; artwork agreed at order confirmation.

What can you promise about arrival condition?

The grade you specified, bags counted and weighed, a loading video, and a straight answer when a sailing is too long for the crop in hand. Nobody can certify a living cargo the way a COA certifies a dried lot.
